Website design and development

A website that loads fast, looks right on a phone and turns visitors into enquiries.

Our website development covers the plan, the page design, the copy, the build and the launch: mobile-first, fast on a weak signal, set up for search from day one, and owned outright by you.

Available on its own, or as part of The Website Build.

In practice

What this actually is

This is designing and building your website - the pages, how it looks, how fast it loads and what somebody is meant to do when they get there. Most visitors will see it on a phone, on mobile data, which is the version that decides whether it works.

What we do

Website strategy
What the site has to do, who is using it, and what a success looks like.
UX and UI design
The structure and the look, designed mobile-first and checked at 360 pixels.
Development
The build itself, on a platform you can afford to own in year five.
Content management
Set up so you can change your own text and images without calling us.
Copy and photography
Written, or your copy edited - never shipped with placeholder text.
SEO foundations
Titles, structure, speed and markup built in rather than added afterwards.
Conversion
A form that works, a number that dials, a WhatsApp thread that opens.
Launch and support
Hosting, domain and email set up, redirects mapped, and someone to call after.

A digital asset with a purpose

More than a new website.

A digital platform built around the business and the people using it, with clearer journeys, stronger foundations, and room for whatever comes next.

The country your site is being viewed in

Almost every conversation about a website is about how it looks on the laptop it was designed on. Almost every visit happens somewhere else: on a phone, on mobile data, often on a connection that would make the designer wince. In South Africa that is not an edge case, it is the norm - more of the web traffic here now comes from a handset than from a desktop, and the gap is still widening.

Speed is not a technical nicety in that setting. It is the single largest thing standing between a visitor and a sale, and it compounds against you: the average page takes nearly twice as long to fully load on a phone as on a desktop, and a visitor in this part of the world routinely waits several times longer than one in a well-served market for the identical page. They do not know why it is slow. They only know they left.

And the last mile is the one most often skipped. A site can be found, load instantly and read beautifully, and still never ask anybody for anything. A form that works, a number that dials, a WhatsApp thread that opens - that is the part that turns the traffic into a conversation.

53.3%

Of South African web traffic comes from a phone, against 46.1% from a desktop. A site designed on a desktop and checked on a phone at the end has the priority the wrong way round.

7%

The conversion a tenth of a second of extra load time can cost you. Speed is not a technical nicety. It is a line on the invoice.

87%

How much longer the average page takes to fully load on mobile than on desktop. The device most of your visitors use is the one the site was least tested on.

The discipline

Four things a website has to survive before it earns anything

In this order, and each is wasted if the one before it fails. The first two are invisible, and they are where nearly every underperforming site is actually broken. No amount of design rescues a failure upstream.

  1. The connection

    It arrives at all

    • Image weight and format
    • What loads before the page is readable
    • How much code ships
    • Hosting close to your market

    This holds it up

  2. The crawler

    A machine can read it

    • One page per intent
    • Titles, descriptions and headings
    • Structured data
    • A sitemap that matches reality

    This holds it up

  3. The reader

A person understands it in seconds

    • What you do, above the fold
    • Who it is for
    • Proof it is real
    • Nothing competing for the eye

    They see this

  4. The ask

    It converts the interest

    • A form that actually delivers
    • WhatsApp and click-to-call
    • Enquiries landing somewhere real
    • Tracking that proves it worked

    They see this

The order matters commercially, not just technically. A redesign that improves stage three while leaving stages one and two untouched is the most common way to spend a large sum of money and measure no change at all - which is exactly what makes it so easy to sell.

Measurement

How you will know it is working

Website development South Africa businesses buy is not finished when it looks right. These are what we check before it launches and what we report on after.

What we report on

  • Mobile performance score, measured on a throttled connection rather than on fibre
  • Every page indexed, with its own title and description
  • Enquiries received, and which page produced each one
  • Bounce and time on page for the pages that are meant to do the selling
  • Core Web Vitals held after launch, not just on launch day

Before you ask

The questions that come up first

Which platform will it be built on?

It depends on what the site has to do. If you publish a lot and want to edit it yourself, WordPress. If the site is doing something WordPress does not handle cleanly, we build it. We will tell you which and why before you commit, and we are not paid differently by the answer.

How is a website quoted?

After a conversation about what the site has to do. What moves the quote is whether we write the words, how many tools the site connects to, and whether an old site is being replaced. Every quote itemises what you own, what you can change yourself, what happens at the end and how many rounds of changes are included.

Is SEO included?

Every page is set up to be found on Google and in AI answers, using the keywords you give us or a short piece of research if you have none. Ongoing SEO, content programmes and rank tracking are a separate service.

Do I own the site?

Yes, entirely. It is built on your hosting, your domain and your accounts, in your name. If we stop working together you change no passwords and lose nothing. We do not hold a site hostage as a retention strategy.

How long does it take?

Website development South Africa businesses buy from us runs from five working days for a single-page site to six to ten weeks for a large build, counted from the day the content is settled. The variable is almost never the build - it is how long it takes to get copy, photographs and decisions, which is why we agree those up front rather than discovering them in week three.

Can you fix the site I already have instead?

Often, and we will say so if that is the honest answer. A site with good bones that is slow and badly structured is usually cheaper to repair than to replace. A site built on a page-builder that ships two megabytes before a word is readable usually is not, and we will show you the measurement rather than asking you to take our word for it.

Do I have to take a maintenance plan?

No. We hand the site over with the logins, the documentation and a walkthrough, so you can look after it yourself. If you would rather we kept it running, ask and we will.
